How do you properly do a legal citation of a paraphrased sentence?

I've been through the ALWD and Blue Book and cant find the proper way to cite a paraphrase. I am paraphrasing the rule from the Miranda case for my legal memo and do not want to use it word for word because I like my paraphrased version better. How do I properly cite it? Does it go in quotes with the citation after it like a regular quote?

  1. If it's a paraphrase, it's not a quote. Just introduce it as such, without quotation marks, and put Miranda in a footnote.
  2. A paraphrase does not go in quotes. You just paraphrase the rule and then cite to the Miranda case at the end of the paraphrase using the full name of the case (unless you've previously cited to it), the reporter name and page number and then the date of the case.
