What are some good young adult books to read during the summer?

~I read young adult books-could be fiction or non-fiction. ~I like mystery books, and books that are about a teen's life. ~I prefer new books that just came out.

  1. Try Meg Cabot's books (her bks meet all ur requirements, and they're quite good...sometimes, a little idealistic, but still good); Oh, and try Michael Gerber's books. There're not mysterious, but they're hilarious. Have u ever read the Harry Potter books? U probably have...but if u haven't, u could try that. And Eragon and Eldest are also REALLY good (by Christopher Paolini).
  2. Don't miss Terry Pratchett's trilogy, the first two are called "We Free Men" and "A Hat Full of Sky". Also don't miss Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books.
  3. I like Scott Westerfeld's works, including Uglies, Pretties and Specials (science fiction - at 16 you have an operation to become a Pretty - your job is to have fun, but they also mess with the inside of you) and Peeps and The Last Days (about parasite positives, or vampires, in New York City area). They aren't brand new, but I think the paperback has just come out for one of them. This one isn't new, either, but if you like fantasy, you might check out Philip Pullman's trilogy His Dark Materials. Have you read James Patterson's Maximum Ride series? The third of that has just come out. Your main character is 98% human and 2% bird. I've only finished the first - the third hasn't been out too long. If I think of others, I'll be back. :) P.S. The main characters are all young people - for Uglies, Tally Youngblood is 16; for Peeps and The Last Days, the main characters are late teens; for His Dark Materials the main character, Lyra and then Will are in their early to mid-teens and in Maximum Ride, she is 14. None of them have a typical life, however.

  6. Twilight, Terrier
  7. I enjoy the Gaslight Mysteries by Victoria Thompson. They have a little bit of a historical twist to them but have good mysteries. The first one is Murder on Astor Place. The main characters are a midwife from a prominent family and an Irish detective. They take place in New York at the turn of the century during the time that Teddy Roosevelt was a Police Commisioner. I also like books by Gilbert Morris. He's a great author who has a lot of books. I especially like the House of Winslow series that he writes. One of which is The Gypsy Moon. It takes place during WWII in the Netherlands. It's about a young woman who's uncle has been fooled by Hitler into working on the atomic bomb. She's part of the Dutch underground and she needs to get her aunt and uncle out of Germany and a British agent comes to help.
